Nineteen years ago, Craig and his wife, Angela, made the decision to exchange their weekend Galveston beach visits for a permanent Island home. Their first home was located at the West End where they met wonderful neighbors and got the sand between their toes each morning. But in 2002, they fell in love with an 1870’s historical home in the San Jacinto Neighborhood and the rest is history. The home was in need of a much loving rehabilitation and they were up to the task. Today they enjoy the diversity of the community and the spontaneous front porch conversations that give our neighborhood its appeal.
Before retiring in 1999, Dr. Brown had his own Pediatric Dental practice in north Houston. Always one to understand the power of community, Craig joined the Greater Houston Dental Society, worked hard, and later served as their President and the President of the Texas Association of Pediatric Dentistry.
With this same work ethic, Dr. Brown has served his Galveston Community. He has volunteered on the Galveston Historical Foundation's Dickens Committee, was appointed to the Landmark Commission and the Planning Commission (where he served as Chairman for 5 years), and has been President of the Downtown Strand Seaport Partnership. Dr. Brown also served as Chairman of the Park Board for five years.
In 2014 Dr. Brown received the honor of being elected to Galveston’s City Council as the Council member for District 2 and is currently serving in that position. In 2018, Dr. Brown was elected as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Galveston.
