Galveston Beach Ambassador Program
The Coastal Zone Management crew picks up over 2,000,000 pounds of trash from the 32 miles of beachfront on Galveston Island every year. With the number growing larger every year, the Park Board began a discussion with the community of Galveston, dubbed as the 'Let's Talk Trash' Roundtable Series. The series was an opportunity for locals to identify problems and solutions with the Park Board in order to mitigate the amount of trash that ends up on the sand or in the sea.
The Park Board noticed many dedicated individuals cleaning the beaches of Galveston on their own initiative and created the Galveston Beach Ambassador Program to highlight these individuals, provide resources, and create an open communication line for observations and data collected throughout the ambassador's cleaning efforts.
The Galveston Beach Ambassador Program was launched in the fall of 2022 as a result of the 'Let's Talk Trash' Roundtable Series.
