 Galveston Park Board Update: March 26, 2019 

The Galveston Park Board of Trustees held its regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26th at Park Board Plaza. Below is an update of news from the boardroom.

Park Board Employees Demonstrate High Job Satisfaction

At its meeting Tuesday, the Park Board’s Human Resources Director Kimberly Danesi presented the findings of the 2018 Employee Engagement Survey. The survey, distributed by the Society for Human Resources Management, measures employee satisfaction and engagement in several areas: career development, relationships with management, compensation and benefits, and work environment. Survey results show that Park Board employees’ job satisfaction exceeds the national average of 70% for overall job satisfaction and that they are significantly more engaged than their peers. The survey also identified areas for improvement that include a variable pay base, overall compensation, and competitive pay.

Park Board Staff Provides Legislative Update

On Tuesday, Kelly de Schaun updated the Park Board on a recent visit to Austin. where she and several Park Board representatives met with state political leaders. She said these meetings allowed for them to share federal and state agendas with key legislative partners and learn about opportunities for grant funding. The Park Board delegation met with a representative from the National Endowment for the Arts, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator John Cornyn, representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers and Congressman Randy Weber.


  • At its meeting Tuesday, the Park Board approved seaweed contingency plan that will allow the Park Board to contract with local property owners to clean the beaches of excessive seaweed that meets the threshold contained within its federal permit.
  • On Tuesday, the Park Board approved three fireworks displays to take place during the summer:  4th of July, the Sunday prior to Memorial Day, and the Sunday prior to Labor Day.
